2021: A year of raising awareness and funds for fantastic charitable organisations

Supporting the local community and raising awareness and funds for worthy causes is part of Laser 24’s core values. 2021 has been our busiest fundraising year to date! We are unbelievably proud of our customers, suppliers and the Laser 24 team who have run, walked, dressed up and donated to several fantastic organisations who support those who need it the most. Here’s a roundup of our 2021 fundraising activities.

Supporting Southend Food Bank at Easter

Over 90% of the food distributed by foodbanks in The Trussell Trust network is donated by the public – that is why donations are vital.

We understand how much joy a gift of chocolate at Easter can bring to any child, therefore Laser 24 selected Southend Food Bank as our Easter charity for 2021. With the help of Laser 24’s amazing team, we donated over 100 Easter Eggs to the Southend Food Bank.

Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day

Back in March 2021, Laser 24 wore Red for the day to raise money for a fantastic charity, Comic Relief. We also ran a fundraiser, to guess many lunges stand between Joe Lycett and his biscuits! We had 7 people take part, raising a total of £176 for Comic Relief.

We hope our donations made a real difference to those who need it the most.

London Landmarks Half Marathon 2021 – For Bliss

On Sunday 1st August 2021, Laser 24’s Site Foreman Josh, completed the London Landmarks Half Marathon Limited for Bliss . Bliss is the leading UK charity for babies born premature or poorly.

This is a charity very close to Josh and his family and below, he tells us why he decided to raise vital funds for this charity.

My son Alfie was born 10 weeks premature, weighing 3lbs 12ozs. He needed help to breathe, was fed through a tube and given lots of extra medicines and nutrition throughout his 27 days on the neonatal intensive care unit. We finally got him home on July 11th, 2017, but only had him there for two days before he caught a virus and stopped breathing. Alfie was intubated and rushed by CAT ambulance from Basildon to Addenbrooke’s hospital in Cambridge, where they could provide him with the care that he needed. Thankfully our stay was only 5 days this time. We, as a family, cannot thank the neonatal units we have visited enough for the level of care they provided.
I am raising money for the charity Bliss as they are at the forefront of conducting vital research to help NICU’s all around the country, keeping babies who are born sick, or prematurely, alive. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far! I am very grateful!”

Running for a total of 2 hours and 53 minutes, Josh raised an incredible £644, smashing his £500 target.

Halloween spooktacular dress up for the Williams Syndrome Foundation.

On Friday 29th October 2021, Laser 24 were in Spooktacular spirits with plenty of terrifying outfits, raising awareness and funds for the Williams Syndrome Foundation, an amazing charity that supports people with WS and those who love, care for, and educate them.

A charity very close to Laser 24‘s heart, Our Director, Iain Summerfield, shares why he supports the Williams Syndrome Foundation here:

“My son Arthur has Williams Syndrome, a genetic disorder that was diagnosed at 10 months old.

Arthur, like most children with WS, has a heart murmur and will require open-heart surgery this year. He is currently being looked after by GOSH and the Royal Brompton hospital in London.

Children with WS are the kindest, most loving people you will ever meet. Their enjoyment of life is something special to behold. Also, Arthur’s favourite time of year is Halloween.”

With a huge help from our suppliers, customers, and the Laser 24 team, who to date have raised a total of £2366.25 for their 2021 event! (inc gift aid)

Football Shirt Friday for Bobby Moore Fund

Bobby Moore was just 51 years old when he died. Shortly after his death in 1993, Bobby’s widow Stephanie Moore MBE set up the Bobby Moore Fund as a restricted fund of Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Research UK to raise money for pioneering bowel cancer research.

Since Bobby’s death, the generosity of supporters has enabled Stephanie Moore, MBE to raise over £28 million and mortality rates for bowel cancer have fallen by more than 30%, but sadly the disease still kills 45 people in the UK every day, showing that this charity still has a long way to go to achieve their goal of tackling bowel cancer.

As huge football fans, this is a charity close to our hearts. The team at Laser 24 wore football shirts and donate each year to this worthy cause. In 2021, our amazing team raised a total of £50.

Christmas Donations to Basildon Hospital

For the past 5 years, the wonderful team at Basildon Girls Rugby Club have been donating gifts to the Children’s Ward and Elderly patients of Basildon Hospital who are unable to make it home for Christmas. We have decided to make this Laser 24’s chosen Christmas Charity.

The Laser 24 team decided to wear their Christmas Jumpers to show support to the local community, delivering Christmas cheer and donating over 120 selection boxes and 20 presents.
